Making of the PPT Process and Evaluation

Welcome. In this post I will talk about what steps I took in the process of preparing the group presentation and what I have learned while doing so. Lastly I will evaluate the information and new knowledge I acquired and how it might help me in the future. Let us begin with the initial parts of the presentation.

As agreed with my teammates, Bugra Ozer and Muhammed Nagroumati, I was responsible for the slide 5 to 8, consisting of our primary research and secondary research. Survey questions used in our presentation came from my form, as I volunteered to prepare one. With help from our classmates and friends, we were able to quickly receive enough responses, making it valid to use in our project. Following part of the presentation I was responsible for was secondary research.

Mentioned in secondary research was IBorderCTRL, Hawk-Eye AI and Autonomous Weapon Systems. I wrote about AWS in my previous post, and IBorderCTRL and Hawk-Eye has been mention in my introduction post. In researching them, I tried looking for interesting information that would sound interesting to the listener, but at the same time my goal was not to overwhelm the audience with unnecessary details, as sticking to the time limit was one of the important aspects of the presentation.

Making the presentation from start to finish, while trying to engage in social and other educational activities, took us in total 42 days.

From the beginning our research was going without any unpleasant disturbances. Starting from general research following through to the end of research analysis. As unforeseen circumstances presented themselves in general adjustment period, we encountered obstacles in the form of family emergency and sickness. Such challenge presented us with a situation, in which a significant amount of work had to be done in a short period just before the deadline to submit our work and presentation itself.

If such a project was assigned to us again in the future, we would be better suited to deal with the obstacles that we might encounter while working on our new project. First step that, in my opinion, would greatly help us improve future teamwork would be earlier or more frequent work sessions with the team. As we moved forward and planed our sessions, occurrences as unexpected call to work started appearing, disrupting our planned meetings. Stabilising our work situation, as much as it is possible, might help solve problems like that in the future. Despite hardships that we encountered, I am proud of what our team had prepared, despite the possible improvements that could have been made.

While doing research of the topic, I learned a significant amount of information about AI and how it is used in creating safer environments and the ethical problems that go in pair with such technological breakthroughs. Our primary research showed us how people in our surroundings use AI on regular basis, surprising me with some of the answers that had been submitted.

To summarise, the topic of the use of AI in the security and military sector is highly controversial. As many articles and books from recent years point out, multitude of experts and activists argue, that development of such technologies should be highly regulated or stopped altogether. Majority of projects I looked into for my primary research had their share of controversies, from the standpoint of concern about our privacy to deciding who lives and dies. As I believe the implementation of AI into these sectors is inevitable, we can only speculate how much impact these technologies will have on our future lives.

I would like to thank you for reading my blog posts. I do wish that all of the information presented in this blog helped you gain some insight into the AI's use in making us safe.

Gratefully,
Adam Patrzyk
